Commissions on annuity sales are high and even financial advisors can be tempted to recommend annuities based on their commission instead of what is best for their client. Higher commissions also increase the surrender penalties and duration of the surrender penalty period—another reason we are not a fan of sales structure within the annuity industry. By and large we agree with the signs of what you should watch for when you’re approached about purchasing annuities.
